Kingsley Plantation
I stumbled across this plantation while exploring Florida’s east coast and can’t wait to share it with you. It’s a true hidden gem because it’s located on an island!
Tucked away on Florida’s Fort George Island, Kingsley Plantation offers a hauntingly beautiful glimpse into the complex history of America’s past.
As the oldest surviving plantation house in the state, it holds stories that are both sobering and extraordinary—from the life of Anna Kingsley, a formerly enslaved African woman who became a landowner, to the stark remains of slave quarters made from tabby concrete.

Now part of the Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve, Kingsley Plantation serves as a historical site operated by the National Park Service and open to the public.
With outbuildings, signage and demonstration, the plantation offers insights into the lives of the enslaved people who lived and worked there.
