February isn’t even over yet, but I’m thinking ahead to April to the Fort Frederick Market Fair near Hagerstown, Md. This year it will take place from April 27-30.
This 18th-century colonial extravaganza is part history lesson, part festival and part unique shopping experience. From Native America trade tools and European-inspired pottery, to hand-crafted silverware and Victorian jewelry, you probably won’t walk away empty-handed.
Though I live less than an hour away, I had never visited Fort Frederick until I went to the Market Fair last year. The fort is an amazing structure that was built in 1756 to protect the frontier (Maryland) from attacks during the French and Indian War.
It is now part of Fort Frederick State Park and can be visited any time, not just during the Colonial Fair.
Here are some pictures from last year.
