Greetings History & Travel Lovers!
🍁 It is now officially fall! 🍂 The last three days in Gettysburg have been steady rain, but no one is complaining because of how badly we needed it.
Even with the rain, this is my favorite time of year. Cooler temperatures and changing leaves makes it a great time to explore historical sites!
Fortunately, living in Gettysburg, means I don’t have to go far to find interesting historical things to do. This week wasn’t about the Civil War for a change, but World War II.
Take a look!
This past weekend marked World War II weekend in Gettysburg, with events taking place at the American Experience World War II Museum in Gettysburg and at the Eisenhower Farm, which was President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s home during and after his presidency.
Both sites featured World War II living history encampments and displays of life on the Homefront as well as in camp.
This immersive weekend allowed visitors to see, hear, touch—and come to understand—what it was like to live during this tumultuous period of time.
The WW2 American Experience Museum is a great addition to the other museums in Gettysburg that help teach visitors about the past.
It’s also a real treat to get to visit the home of Ike and Maime.
If you missed it, there’s always next year!
