I had a different post planned this week, but since January 19th marks Robert E. Lee’s birthday, I decided to share some photos from inside Arlington House, which was General Lee’s home before the Civil War.
The story of Arlington House is an amazing tale of spite and tragedy during the Civil War.
Reminder that Past Lane Lite is a quick version of my blog Past Lane Travels (comprised of mostly pictures) for those who are too busy to read a full post.
Photo collage of Arlington House, the former home of Robert E. Lee that was turned into Arlington Cemetery. The top photos show the magnificent house from Arlington Cemetery and from the front porch of Arlington. The center photos are inside the house, including the dining room; pictures of Robert E. Lee and his wife Mary Custis Lee, who were married in the parlor, shown in the next photo. Bottom row is the arbor at Arlington House, the morning sun shining on Arlington House and the tomb that marks the spot where the remains of 2,111 unknown soldiers were laid to rest in the garden of Mrs. Lee.
Thank you for sharing this. It is new to me on a subject I find near and dear.
